Note that these trails are close-in and can be heavily trafficked. Always use caution regarding wildlife. Hikers report seeing occasional bears on some trails recently.
- Green Mountain West Trail
This is the perfect 2.5 mile hike with awesome views. Hikers find it easy with a few steep climbs near the summit. Steps ease the steeper sections. The summit is an excellent place to watch the sunset, but head down quickly since sunlight will be waning.
- Gregory Canyon, Range View and Flagstaff Trail Loop
A 3.6 mile loop of moderating hiking, the trail is adorned with beautiful wild flowers and views along the plains and the Continental Divide from the Range View trail. Nice alternative to the Mt. Sanitas trail.
- Boulder Mesa Trail
Boulder Mesa Trail is a 7.3 mile that spans the wildflower-dotted landscape just below the Flatirons. Seasonally green and lush.
- Lion’s Lair Trail
Lion’s Lair Trail is a 4.4 mile moderately trafficked and forested trail. The hike is relaxing with superb view of Mt. Sanitas.
- Canyon Loop and Benjamin Trail Loop
This 7.8 mile hike features a lake, beautiful scenes of meadows and forested sections. The variety makes for a spectacular trail.
- Shanahan Ridge Trail
Shanahan Ridge Trail is 3.7 mile trek up and down slopes that increases your heart rate. Scenic and peaceful hike.
- Mount Sanitas Peak Trail
Mount Sanitas Peak Trail is 2.6 miles with a steep incline throughout the climb to the top. Journey offers views of the Flatirons and Boulder Valley.
- Kohler Mesa Trail
This 4-mile loop delivers Flatiron views and a balance of climbs and flats.
- Woods Quarry Loop Trail
Woods Quarry Loop Trail is a 2.5 mile with an uphill climb followed by a gentle downhill descent and amazing views. Be sure to follow the map to stay on track amidst many twists and offshoots.
- National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Ramble Trail
Beautiful, iconic Boulder trail is 3.4 miles that includes some travel behind back yards. While you are in the area, take a look inside the NCAR visitor’s center.
